Official Mission Statement
The BugsVille Department of Transportation is dedicated to the proactive management of municipal roadway assets through sustained infrastructure assessment initiatives, cross-departmental traffic flow optimization frameworks, and the strategic deployment of orange cones in quantities that inspire public confidence.
Our department ensures that all road surfaces, traffic signals, and navigational signage are maintained to a standard that can only be described as “eventually adequate” — pending completion of ongoing environmental impact studies, budgetary reconciliation hearings, and the resolution of a long-standing interdepartmental dispute over who owns the good steamroller.

Our Divisions
Each division operates with the utmost commitment to looking busy from a distance.
Pothole Response Unit
Est. 2026
Tasked with documenting, classifying, and eventually acknowledging the existence of potholes. Current backlog: 347 reports. Potholes filled to date: 2. Both were the same pothole. It came back.
Towing & Vehicle Recovery Division
Est. 2026
Provides emergency vehicle recovery services to stranded motorists. Response time depends on how far the tow truck driver is from the nearest coffee shop. Average ETA: optimistic.
Traffic Signal Management Bureau
Est. 2026
Responsible for ensuring all traffic signals display a color at all times. Which color is considered a secondary concern. Currently investigating reports that one intersection has been stuck on green for three weeks. No complaints received.
Road Surface Quality Control
Est. 2026
Conducts quarterly road quality assessments by driving over every road in BugsVille and rating them on a scale of 'Fine' to 'Character Building.' Most roads score 'Character Building.'
Highway Safety & Cone Deployment
Est. 2026
Maintains BugsVille's strategic cone reserve and deploys them at the first sign of trouble -- or boredom. Current cone-to-pothole ratio: 14:1. The department considers this 'not nearly enough.'
Signage & Lane Marking Division
Est. 2026
Responsible for all road signage, lane markings, and the one stop sign that keeps mysteriously rotating 90 degrees overnight. An internal investigation is ongoing. Suspects: the wind.
City-Approved Contractors
The following Yellow Pages categories are officially endorsed by the Department of Transportation.
Towing & Recovery
City-approved tow operators standing by to assist with breakdowns, accidents, and vehicles that have befriended a ditch.
Trucking & Freight
Licensed hauling contractors for municipal freight, construction materials, and the occasional misplaced cone shipment.

Inter-Departmental Relations
Our ongoing collaborations with BugsVille's other municipal departments. Subject to construction delays.
BugsVille Police Department
BPD
BPD has accused us of 'pothole vandalism' on three separate occasions. We maintain that potholes are a natural phenomenon. BPD has opened a file. We have opened a pothole near their file room.
BugsVille Fire Department
BFD
BFD once reported 'mysterious fumes' emanating from our break room. It was reheated chili from a shared recipe. BFD confiscated the chili and has not returned it. We suspect they ate it.
Bureau of Chauffeured Transport
BCT
BCT keeps filing damage claims for potholes. We keep filing them under 'road character features.' Their drivers have started memorizing pothole locations. We consider this an infrastructure tour.
BugsVille Racing League
BRL
BRL has offered to 'test our roads at speed' free of charge. We declined. They tested them anyway. We received a 47-page report titled 'Your Roads Are Bad.' We filed it next to the cones.
Public Transit
BPT
BPT blames us for every late bus. We have explained that construction zones are temporary. They have been temporary for fourteen months. We are working on a revised timeline for the revised timeline.
Parks & Recreation
BPR
Parks & Rec submitted a pothole repair request four months ago. We confirmed receipt. They asked for an update. We confirmed receipt of the update request. The system works.
Waste Management
BWM
BWM says our trucks block traffic. We say their trucks block traffic. In a surprising development, both departments' trucks were found blocking each other on Route 7 last Thursday. Neither department will yield.
BugsVille News Network
BNN
BNN published an expose titled 'The Cone Industrial Complex: How DOT Spends Your Tax Dollars.' We found it well-researched and deeply offensive. We deployed additional cones around their office as a rebuttal.
BugsVille Wiki Contributors
BWC
BWC published a 3,000-word article on our cone placement strategy. They read it. They have requested corrections, primarily regarding the spelling of 'infrastructure,' which they maintain has two R's. We have declined the corrections and deployed additional cones around the corrections.
